Fans of NYC style pizza pies should take note of a new pizzeria that's just opened up off Baker Street. Alley Cats Pizza is from the restaurant group that run Ochre at the National Gallery and (whisper it) Angus Steakhouse. Here in Marylebone their head chef Francesco Macri, who's ex-Pizza Pilgrims and Princi, has put together a tight menu that takes New York's pizza scene as its inspiration.
There are just seven thin and crispy style pizzas on offer, including one white base one. Options include, in addition to the classic marinara and margherita:
- Vodka - with aged mozzarella, buffalo mozzarella and cream tomato sauce
- Sausage with aged mozzarella, fennel sausage, pancetta, red onion and pecorino flakes
- Vegan 'n' fire - roasted bell pepper, vegan nduja, pesto and crispy potatoes
The drinks options are similarly pared down with a range of Moth canned cocktails, beers and wine to choose from. And with wine starting at a bargainous £6.50 for a 175ml glass, we reckon this will go down pretty well in the W1 area.
