What: HAKATA Ramen + Bar

In a nutshell: Bermondsey ramen joint and dive bar

Summing it all up: Serving up ramen, Japanese small plates and more, this Bermondsey spot aims to be part NYC speakeasy, part Japanese dive bar.

The low-down

SE1 residents now have a new place to get their ramen fix. HAKATA Ramen + Bar opened pretty under the radar a few weeks back on the corner of Bermondsey Street and Newham's Row. It's billed as a mash between a NYC speakeasy and Japanese dive-bar.

Priding themselves on a combo of the best Japanese and British ingredients, they're promising tonkotsu and other ramen as well as other dishes like chicken wings, gyoza, bao buns and - you guessed it - katsu sandos.

On the drinks front they say that all their wines are vegan and most are also either organic or biodynamic where possible and made by small producers. They'll also be serving up Japanese craft beers, sake, cocktails and Japanese whiskies. If all that sounds enticing then the face that they've also got a basement dive-bar with a late licence on Friday and Saturday.
