Exclusive update 4/4/19 with opening date and more details
What: BAO Borough
In a nutshell: Taiwanese cult favourite hits South London
Summing it all up: BAO will be opening their third restaurant in Borough and this time, they're promising something a little different.
The low-down
When everything else seems to be going to hell in a handcart, we do like to be able to bring our readers some good news. And what better news could there be than the arrival of another BAO in London?
As their third restaurant, BAO Borough will "offer a different culinary experience to its sister sites". We're particularly excited at the prospect of a Bao karaoke evening - the new restaurant will have a karaoke room for up to 12 downstairs. And while you belt out the classics you can order in large cocktail pitchers and beer buckets along with their Fried and Grill Karaoke Platters, featuring dishes like Chilli Chicken Wing, Xinjiang Mushroom and Taiwanese Sausage.
And that karaoke's pretty good value at between £5 and £8 an hour per-person, depending on the time.
Food-wise, there's quite a lot of new items to look forward to. They'll be putting on three brand new bao on the menu here as well as a late night noodle menu and more dishes inspired by late-night grills across Asia. Some of those new dishes include:
- Chicken Nugget BAO
- Aubergine BAO
- Beef Meatball with Fried Egg
- Borough Curry, Panko Goat and Frankfurter
Alternatively, if you're in the mood for grabbing a bao bun to go, there'll be a hatch outside just for that.
As for drinks, we really want to try out something from the Suntory Hi-Ball machine they're installing. The idea is it serves up whisky and sodas with the same sort of bubbles as Champagne. They'll be changing the Hi-Ball menu seasonally depending on what fruits are available and we're promised "a quirky combination of flavours".
