The Sea, The Sea in Chelsea is fishmonger by day, seafood and Champagne bar by night

9/4/19 - updated with opening date and exec chef details

What: The Sea, The Sea

In a nutshell: Fishmonger by day, bar by night in Chelsea.

Summing it all up: This latest addition to Chelsea's Pavilion Road sees the co-founder of Bonnie Gull opening a fishmonger and deli which transforms into a seafood bar in the evening. And Leo Carreira will be in charge of the menu.

The low-down

The Sea, The Sea (taking its name from Iris Murdoch's book) is the latest from Alex Hunter, co-founder and MD of Bonnie Gull. It'll be a bit of a transforming place - being a fishmonger and deli during the day and then a seafood and Champagne bar in the evening.

So during the day, you'll be able to pop in and get everything you need for a fish supper - with native lobster and langoustine, halibut, turbot and Ike Jima mackerel all on offer (depending on the catch, of course) all sourced from regional fish markets. While it will be mainly British, they will venture further for special catches, including carabinero prawns and red king crab. And alongside all that will be stocks, sauces and marinades, pies, ceviches, pickled and smoked seafood from the deli.

As for that evening seafood bar? That'll see the oyster bar converted into a real bar, with small plates, bowls and shellfish platters. And Champagne, of course. It'll have Leo Carreira (formerly Londrino) as the Executive Chef and on his menu are dishes like:

  • Cornish seabass crudo with crispy parsley sweet cicely
  • Tender squid with pine nuts, sake and beach herbs
  • Poached Scottish lobster with olive oil and pepper.

Also, there will be masterclasses (oyster shucking, fish filleting, curing) and guest chefs are planning to appear too - including Ikoyi's Jeremy Chan and UNA’s Martin Milesi and Maos' Edoardo Pelicano.
