  • Test Driving Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, the high-rise 12-seater restaurant clearly deserves its Michelin star

    room

After the restaurant got a very big push on his Netflix series, we decided it was time to take a proper look at High, Gordon Ramsay's high-rise Michelin-starred restaurant at 22 Bishopsgate.

  • Poolhouse is looking to reinvent the pool hall at Liverpool Street

If there's one area of hospitality that seems to be doing well right now, it's competitive socialising. After years of bowling being the only real option for a game as part of a night out, we now have darts, curling and even axe throwing. And we're about to get the new version of a pool hall called Poolhouse.

Opening near Liverpool Street station (so this is perfect for a City night out as well as the bridge-and-tunnel crowd), Poolhouse is going to be home to 20

  • Test Driving Wild Izakaya, the new sushi spot bringing Tokyo energy and glamour to the City

    ALT

The team behind Goodman have opened a Tokyo-style izakaya right opposite their other restaurant on Old Jewry. We went down to check out the City's newest high energy sushi offering.

  • Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen is finally getting ready to open at 22 Bishopsgate

If you've been watching the Being Gordon Ramsay documentary on Netflix, you'll know that one of the key storylines has revolved around the chef's multiple openings in the 22 Bishopsgate skyscraper in the City. In the opening episode (spoiler), you see his dismay to hear that of the various restaurants planned, Bread Street Kitchen on the 59th floor, is going to be delayed by months. Given that the rest of the operation opened back in February last year, the opening ended up being delayed a full 15 months in total.

Clearly, the team behind it must be feeling bullish as they've just

  • MRBL in Leadenhall Market is a new British steakhouse for the City

The City is about to get a new steakhouse, albeit with a name that's probably going to cause more than a little confusion when you try to tell friends about it. Opening in Leadenhall Market is MRBL, a restaurant that has dispensed with vowels.

Billed as a modern British steakhouse, it's set across two floors (and an outdoor terrace) with Executive Chef Matt Colk in charge (previously Aviary and The Gun) and comes from a team that previously launched Boom Bab Burger (also in Leadenhall Market).

The menu is obviously going to revolve around the steaks, with

  • Wild Izakaya opens on the QT in the City, from the Goodman team with ex-Koyn head chef

It still happens occasionally that a brand new restaurant opens up without us having heard so much of a whisper about it beforehand. That's the case with Wild Izakaya, a very interesting-sounding Japanese restaurant from the team behind Goodman, Pinna and Beast.

It's taken over a space in the City of London on Old Jewry Street, right opposite its sibling restaurant Goodman. They say their thing is "bringing Japan to London", and the man in charge of doing precisely that is Executive Chef Satoru Hashimoto, the former Head Chef at Koyn, who previously spent over a decade heading up

  • Milanese-coded Sartoria comes to The City, opening by Liverpool Street

Last year, we wrote about how The Evolv Group (previously D&D) were going all-in on their Sartoria brand, expanding the restaurant that was originally launched by Francesco Mazzei into a mini group of restaurants. Well, that's continuing apace as they're already about to launch the fourth outpost.

Rather than opening brand new places, Evolv have been repurposing some of their existing restaurants, this one being just opposite Liverpool Street Station. Once, this was a pair of restaurants - New Street Grill and Fish Market. New Street Grill has relaunched as Liverpool

  • Cheese toasties on the menu for City workers with the arrival of Melt at Boxhall City

Lunch options for folks in the City just got a boost in the run up to Christmas with the arrival of cheese toastie folk MELT at the Boxhall City food hall. Melt have been trading at Old Spitalfields for the past couple of years; you'll probably have seen their signature oozy cheese toasties on your FYP at some point.

On the menu at the new City location will be a range of toasties and dips for dunking. But they're also launching an option that's exclusive to Boxhall City - The Boxer. That's a toastie with smoked pulled pork, maple mustard, MELT cheddar mozzarella blend, Kansas BBQ

  • Phil Howard's Notto is promising City folk fresh pasta for lunch

Phil Howard's Notto pasta bar is coming to the City

8/12/25 - updated with the opening date

His main home may be Elystan Street, but Phil Howard's other business looks like it's doing pretty well. Fresh pasta bar Notto is already on Piccadilly and in Covent Garden, and a third is on the way to the City.

If you're as yet unfamiliar with the restaurant, ...

  • The City looks like the next stop for pasta restaurant Bancone

The City looks like the next stop for pasta restaurant Bancone

Pasta restaurant Bancone already has four restaurants across town (Soho, Covent Garden, Kensington and Borough), and now it looks like they're getting ready to open a fifth. They've just applied for licensing to open in a new development on Princes Street (down the road from Bank station and around the corner from The Ned).

If you're yet unfamiliar with them, Bancone started early in

  • Noodle Inn is coming to Spitalfields. It's going to be much bigger, but there will still be queues

Noodle Inn is coming to Spitalfields and it's much bigger, but still prepare for queues

Around this time last year, Noodle Inn opened in Soho and was an instant sensation. It immediately became the restaurant with some of the longest queues in Soho and has remained hugely popular to this day. Well, now they're about to open a second restaurant.

The new Noodle Inn will be in Spitalfields, opening in one of the many brand new developments

  • The Cloth team are turning the historic Simpson's Tavern in the City into Cloth Cornhill

It's been three long years since we first reported on the fight for survival of one of London's oldest restaurants. Now there's good (and bad) news. On the upside, the historic tavern is getting ready to open its doors again for the first time since 2022. The other good thing is that the team who are taking it on, Joe Haynes, Ben Butterworth and Tom Hurst who also run Smithfield favourite Cloth, know a thing or two about running a restaurant in a historic building. The OG

It's all go in Broadgate at the moment. Fresh off the launch off the new Vagabond wine bar, and the imminent arrival of US import Velvet Taco comes news of another interesting new opening in the pipeline.

The Horsemen is being billed as an "An Irish-American steakhouse and freehouse" which, according to trade title Propel, is being opened by the same group that brought Sunday in Brooklyn to London. The pub

  • The City joins the smash burger craze with Off The Street in Monument

The City joins the smash burger craze with Off The Street in Monument

That smash burger trend hasn't come even close to finishing, with another launch, this time inside a City pub. Having started last week, newcomer Off The Street are serving up their burgers inside The Britannia on Monument Street.

They seem to be going for the minimalist, Supernova-like approach, so you won't find anything too fancy here. So there's the classic cheeseburger
