The smoking of the Butcher's Mary on the tableside Bloody Mary Trolley
We love a good weekend brunch, what's so special about this one?
If you're up for a bit of tableside theatre, then this new Sunday brunch at Straits Kitchen in the heart of the City is going to be very much your thing. At the heart of it is a special Bloody Mary offering that brings a bit of pizzazz to London's weekend brunch scene.
The Bloody Mary Trolley arrives at our table
The man who came up with the trolley idea is the restaurant's kitchen supervisor Siddesh Pawar. Those ordering from the Bloody Mary menu start with three versions of the brunch cocktail. There's the classic iteration, a Garden Mary made with rosemary and dill-infused vodka and the one we had, a Butcher's Mary made with bacon fat-washed vodka and a bacon crumb rimmed glass and finished off with a hit of smoke.
Our finished drink - smoky, spicy and perfect for kickstarting a Sunday.
And for anyone who likes getting their Bloody Mary done precisely how they like it, staff here have a huge range of spice levels and garnishes.
What if I'm not a Bloody Mary fan?
In that case, we'd point you towards the £12 brunch cocktails they have on Sundays. Options include Espresso Martini, Margarita, Negroni, Cosmopolitan, and an Old Fashioned.
Is there a buffet?
There's a fabulous spread on offer, which you're welcome to hit up again and again. Think trays of freshly-baked pastries, including apple turnovers and pain au chocolats, alongside smoked salmon, a range of cheese and charcuterie and fresh fruit and juices.

Did someone mention hot dishes?
Brunch here comes with that cold buffet plus your choice of hot dish. There are warm buttermilk pancakes with Chantilly cream and maple syrup, confit wild mushrooms on brioche toast and, of course, crushed avo and a poached egg on sourdough to choose from. If you want to keep it classic there's also a Full English and Full Vegan to try too. Here's what we had:
Steak and egg - a sirloin steak, topped with gochujang chimichurri and a Burford Brown fried egg
Duck and potato hash, with fried egg and chorizo.
Anything else we should know?
Yes, when you book the Sunday brunch you also get a musical performance for free every Sunday.
Overall thoughts:
With views over Bishopsgate Plaza and across to the classical features of St Botolph-without-Bishopsgate, this is a lovely bright restaurant to enjoy a Sunday brunch. Frankly, who doesn't love a limitless buffet and an expertly made Bloody Mary?
