Iconic City restaurant Coq d'Argent is moving to a spectacular new riverside rooftop

coq d'argent is moving to millennium bridge

We've been hearing rumours for quite some time that one of the City's best-known restaurants, Coq d'Argent, wasn't going to be at its current rooftop perch for much longer. Now we have confirmation not only that they're closing their No 1 Poultry site, but also that they have a new, even more glamorous, rooftop space to move to.

The French restaurant was opened by Sir Terence Conran in its current Bank address almost 30 years ago. And with its gardens overlooking the Bank of England, it's been one of London's best-known rooftop restaurants over the years. But things change, and back in March it was reported that under new plans for the No 1 Poultry, there was going to be more office space but at the cost of the restaurant.

All that is of less concern now that the Coq d'Argent has a shiny new building to move to, and one that unarguably has a better view. It'll be taking over the rooftop of the newly redeveloped One Millennium Bridge. That'll give it views across the river to Tate Modern and The Shard and north to St Paul's. It's a huge space, with gardens designed by Chelsea gold medallist Andy Sturgeon and is going to be quite the venue once it opens.

They're expected to move to their new digs early next year. But the restaurant will continue trading at its current location until the move.
