The Brackenbury returns to Hammersmith as a brand new neighbourhood restaurant

The Brackenbury returns to Hammersmith as a brand new Neighbourhood restaurant Twitter was abuzz before Christmas about the return from the ashes of a beloved neighbourhood favourite in Hammersmith, The Brackenbury. Much like the recent-ish return of another London favourite, The Quality Chop House, this sees the restaurant re-open in name only but it's a brand new venture otherwise.

Behind the reopening is Ossie Gray, who used to be the General Manager of River Cafe who's got Head Chef Humphrey Fletcher in the kitchen, who in turn used to be at Kensington Place, The Glasshouse, River Cafe and was also Head Chef at The Royal Well Tavern in Gloucester. Joining him is Andy Morris who has cooked at The Anglesea Arms & The Providores.

On the food front, they'll be offering a regularly changing menu based around 5 choices of starters, mains and desserts together with a small list of wines & drinks. According to Ossie, they'll be "cooking the food we love based on our experience of regional French & Italian with some other Mediterranean influences as well. The focus on our sourcing will be market led with an emphasis on quality British produce."

From a recent menu, this means...

  • Starters like "Golden Beets, Shaved Fennel, Blood Orange & Olive Salad (£6.50) or "Deep Fried Whitebait, Violetta Artichokes & Aioli (£7.50)
  • Mains including Slow-cooked Octopus, braised Fennel, wet Polenta & Gremolata (£15.00) or Roast Icelandic Cod, Roseval Potatoes, Radicchio & Pancetta (£16.00)
  • Desserts - Pink Grapefruit Granita, Lemon Crème Chantilly (£5.00) or Yorkshire Ginger pudding (£5.50)

In charge up front is Olivier Subira, who you might have seen at Chez Bruce, River Cafe, the Dock Kitchen and Vinoteca to name a few. The revamped restaurant ("completely redecorated and fitted new banquettes to give the space a warm and welcoming feel") has two rooms each seating around 25 and has an outdoor terrace which can seat another 20 (when the winter cold departs).

The Brackenbury is at 129-131 Brackenbury Rd London W6 0BQ. For more information follow them on Twitter @BrackenburyRest or go to www.brackenburyrestaurant.co.uk
