PipsDish goes permanent in Covent Garden

pipsdishcoventPipsDish has been a big success for a while now, originally tucked away in an old Citroen garage just off Upper Street in Islington. Since leaving there, they've been in Hoxton Square and now they're coming to Covent Garden to a permanent venue in Covent Garden.

The new restaurant (on a two year lease to start with) will be right next to Covent Garden stalwart Joe Allen, and Pipsdish's Philip Dundas and Mary Doherty will be in charge of the food again. It's a small restaurant and the highlight is likely to be the table in the small yard out the back of the restaurant. They're teaming up with Dorset Shepherd Huts to build a hut in the yard "full of maps and mountain memorabilia from Philip’s climbing adventures" with private dining for up to 8 people.

That personal approach seems to have been applied to the rest of the restaurant too, which features "favourite movie and exhibition posters, images of his gay icons, postcards, photographs, objects, and even a Narnia-esque wardrobe from his grandmother’s home."

The food continues the "no-menu" approach from the previous pop-up, with different dishes on offer every day, sourced from their trusted suppliers. So rare breed pork, mutton and poultry is from a farm in Sussex while fish is from a co-operative in Cornwall. Recent dishes in Hoxton included "dhal with whole roast spiced sauté Salmon", "Persian couscous and chioggia beet with chard", "Raspberry and apricot ice cream with spiced plums" and "apple and plum crumble tart".

The new restaurant will also be serving breakfast, a selection of small dishes and sharing plates for lunch and early theatre meals too. Their main PipsDish 3-course dinner with canapés (£30) will be available Monday - Saturday at 8pm. For drinks, there will be a small ever-changing wine list.

While you'll be able to book for the late theatre suppers, Sunday lunch and Saturday breakfast - the main dinners are for walk-ins only (but you can call to warn them you're on your way too). In the meantime, they'll also be continuing at Hoxton Square.

PipsDish Covent Garden opens October 8 at 15 Exeter Street WC2E 7DT. For more info, follow them on Twitter.
