Minnow neighbourhood restaurant comes to Clapham Common

Minnow neighbourhood restaurant comes to Clapham Common

What: Minnow

In a nutshell: All-day seasonal European with a twist in Clapham

Summing it all up: There's Robata-grilled whole roast poussin, caramelised watermelon with Campari sorbet and baby octopus with curry leaf paste on offer at Minnow, Clapham Common's newest all day dining hot spot - plus, breakfast cocktails.

The low-down

Clapham Common is about to get a new all-day dining spot called Minnow. From its parkside location overlooking the common, they'll serving seasonal British food with an international twist like chilli cornbread with fried egg and avocado, served with paw paw and cayenne.

Aside from that, mains will include the likes of squid with lemongrass, lime and ginger, plus baby octopus with curry leaf paste and charred green mango. There'll also be whole roast poussin cooked over their inhouse Robata grill, while desserts caramelised watermelon with a blood orange and campari sorbet.

For the earlybirds, there'll be their own take on the full English which includes a house-cured chop, eggs and avocados, but we're most interested in the sound of their breakfast cocktails. There'll also be freshly blended juices and local roasted coffee for those who aren't going quite so all in first thing in the morning.

The venue itself sounds interesting too, and includes a walled garden and a vaulted booth that's lit by a stained glass light box, which will live inside the restaurant's wine cellar. If it's decent weather, there'll be streetside seating, near to which Clapham residents can avail of juice-packed honesty box, for a passing pick me up. And we're intrigued by the wine served in "pay as you drink" bottles.

It's been founded by Chris Frichot and Saba Tsegaye who have enlisted chef Jake Boyce who has an impressive background. He's former Head Chef of Jason Atherton’s Social Wine and Tapas and also worked at Dean Street Town House and Pollen Street Social. Chris comes via Caravan, Hawksmoor and Hoi Polloi.

And the name? "We’ve decided to call ourselves Minnow because we know that we’re going to be a small, but fiercely independent, fish in a big pond – but it’s something we’re proud of," said Chris.
