First London restaurant festival launches...

london-restaurant-festivalWe first reported the plans back in May, and now the London Restaurant Festival has been officially launched today by Boris, and will be chaired by Evening Standard food critic Fay Maschler and Simon Davis.  A big effort appears to have been spent in making this a major event in any Londoner's diary, with events including:

  • A (hopefully) star-studded party hosted by Vanity Fair at Quaglinos
  • Top chefs serving dinner on the London Eye
  • Special priced "festival menus"
  • Multiple pop-up restaurants including one on the roof of Selfridges
  • A Dragon's Den style pitch of ideas to top restaurateurs

But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the event will surely be the "Festival Menus."  Restaurants signing up to take part will have to produce either a 2 course set menu of either lunch at £10, £15 or £20 or dinner for £15, £25 or £40.  The hope is that some of the big-name chefs will sign up and more people will have a chance to try food at many of London's highest-end restaurants during the week and not have to take out a second mortgage to pay for the affair. At the end of the festival, there will be an awards ceremony where the best menus of the festival are chosen.

We'll, of course, be keeping a close eye on who's signing up to the Festival Menus and make sure that you're aware of any big names on the list.

The festival takes place 8th - 13th October. Full details of the event can be found at the London Restaurant Festival website.
