Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck to close for eight months and relocate to Melbourne

fatducklogoUpdated with reopening date 4/11/14

We know the clocks have gone forward but we had to double check that it wasn't already April 1 in Melbourne with this latest story. Hot on the heels of Noma announcing a two months relocation to Japan, Heston Blumenthal has done the same but he's taking the Fat Duck half way around the world to Melbourne for six months.

It's all to support a major refurb of the Fat Duck in Bray. During that time, Heston's relocating the whole team to the Crown Resort in Melbourne. There, the Fat Duck will last from February to August until it becomes the second Dinner by Heston Blumenthal.

The Fat Duck is celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, so we can expect big things when it returns (a completely new menu would be a good start in our minds.) But if you haven't been to the Fat Duck in its current incarnation yet, expect a reservation between now and closure to be all that harder to get.

The good news is that for December, they're expanding their opening hours to include Sunday lunch on 7, 14 and 21 December. That final lunch will be the last meal served in Bray until September the following year.

The Fat Duck in Bray closes December 2014 and will reopen in September 2015. To book a table before that time you can make a reservation online
