Heston, Angela and Fergus cosy up for charity

Lucky, lucky bankers. Not only are they already back earning squillions with their big bonuses, but they’re also the intended guests at a seriously high-end charity banquet where top chefs will cook up a storm in the kitchen at No 1 Lombard followed by a wine auction with rare vintages supplied by Christies. But hold up – a seat at the event on 10 October costs £160, which we think for dinner created by Heston Blumenthal, Angela Hartnett, Fergus Henderson and Lombard’s very own Herbert Berger isn’t too steep. To apply for tickets click here. Remember, you ought to be able to show the colour of your money at the auction following the dinner to raise money for Action Against Hunger.

Meanwhile over at the Guardian, they’re asking whether it’s bad form to snap your food before you eat it, or whether once you’ve paid for it you can do whatever the hell you like with it.

If you’re into Chinese food you could do worse than try out Kym’s restaurant near Victoria where the head man in the kitchen, Andrew Wong, has just won Westminster’s Chinese Masterchef competition. Andrew’s other restaurant, Bumbles on Buckingham Palace Road has just been shortlisted for best local restaurant by the latest series of the F-Word, which is hot news as nominations only closed this Sunday.

Other things we learned this week:

  • Heston Blumenthal’s rip-roaring success at the Popham Little Chef means he’s rolling out the Heston makeover to a further 12 Little Chefs, according to the Mirror, which reveals that York is the first one to re-open in the new style and Hot Dinners can reveal that the lucky people of Kettering West will be next to enjoy the Heston treatment.
  • That following a Gary Rhodes recipe to the letter might not be the cleverest move you could make
  • Watch out Oz! Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein are both heading down under to open up new restaurants
  • And, are knives losing out in the cutlery popularity stakes to forks? Apparently so...
