Timed perfectly to coincide with dinnertime, the solar eclipse is nearly upon us. It’s going to be the best eclipse the UK will have seen this century with up to 96% of the sun being covered by the moon.
If you want to get an amazing view of the partial eclipse that we’ll see from London, the experts say you need to get up high with a good view of the western horizon. So we’ve picked a handful of London restaurants that we reckon will be a great place to watch it from (make sure you’ve got the right eclipse-viewing specs, mind). The whole thing starts at 6.17pm, reaches peak eclipse at 7.13pm and ends just after 8pm.

Whitehall - 6th Floor, The OWO, 57 Whitehall, London SW1A 2BX
The terrace at Endo’s OWO restaurant is fully prepped for the event and will be handing out certified eclipse viewing glasses for all guests.
Knightsbridge - Old Barrack Yard, London SW1X 7NP
Strictly speaking the bar faces North, but as it’s adjacent to Hyde Park the vista opens up, meaning you ought to get a decent view out to the west too.
Ce La Vi
Paddington - 17 & 18, 1 Paddington Sq, London W2 1DL
As one of London’s most westerly high rise restaurants, Ce La Vi ought to have one of the best views of the solar eclipse in the city.
Mayfair - 28th Floor London Hilton on Park Lane 22, Park Lane London W1K 1BE
While the dining room here does face west, if you really want the perfect view of the solar eclipse, you should head to the bar terrace which looks out over Hyde Park and would give you the perfect vista.
Belgravia - The Peninsula, 1 Grosvenor Pl, London SW1X 7HJ
Claude Bosi’s Michelin-starred restaurant Brooklands is having a summer break, so it’s the summer pop-up Soleil that’ll give you a good spot to watch the eclipse from. Enjoy the Med-style menu and a glass of rose while you wait for the big show.
King’s Cross - 10 Argyle St, London WC1H 8EG
A fair few tables and the bar at Decimo might give you a view of the eclipse, but for an uninterrupted view of the skyline you need to head up to The Standard’s rooftop bar. Get a pitcher of cocktails while you wait.
Peckham - The Rooftop, 133A Rye Ln, London SE15 4BQ
To see how the solar eclipse looks like with the whole of London as your backdrop, this rooftop bar in Peckham is going to give you a fabulous view.
