The family behind the award-winning Walthamstow Spar, neighbouring Eat 17 bistro and cult condiment ‘Eat 17 Bacon Jam’ have designs, it seems, on the rest of London. They'll be launching a restaurant, burger bar and convenience store in a the former Brooksbys Snooker Hall on Chatsworth Road in Lower Clapton later this month.
To begin with the ground floor burger bar and convenience store will be open with the upstairs restaurant following the next month.
The new Clapton venue will see chef-director Chris O’Connor in the kitchen as head chef of the restaurant which will have room for 50. Dishes you could find on the menu might include:
- smoked chicken noodles, crispy skin, enoki
- pork shoulder, smoky beans, crème fraiche, spinach & hazelnuts.
The restaurant, which will only be open in the evening will also feature a long bar down the back wall of the hall.
“There’s nothing else like this in the area,” said co-owner James Brundle. “We want people to come here for a meal and feel a bit ‘wowed’ by the room and the experience. But it will still be very relaxed and comfortable, competitively priced, and you can just come for a drink and a snack at the bar if you like.”
Downstairs from the restaurant on the ground floor will be both a self-service burger bar with room for 28 people to eat and a convenience store. The burger bar menu will include the famous grass-fed beef and Eat 17 Bacon Jam burger that's on offer in the original Walthamstow restaurant and will be the first place to sell craft beer from Hackney Wick’s Crate brewery on tap.
And if you're looking to pick up something to go, the store will sell everything from kitchen towel to gourmet sausages; Eat 17’s famous homemade ‘ready meals’; freshly-baked organic bread from their Walthamstow bakery and tasty pastries. All the meat for the restaurant and burger bar is organic and free range, and being sourced from rare breed London butcher Turner and George.
Eat 17 will open at 64-66 Brooksbys Walk, London E9 6DA in April 2014.
