Fans of the much-loved Lupo Bros cafe in Wimbledon didn't have to spend too long mourning their departure when the lease expired earlier this month. Within weeks, brothers James and Matthew had already opened their new home, Butty & Co, in nearby Southfields.
"Sandwiches done properly" is how they set out their stall. Right now, as they get their kitchen up to full capacity, they're only open for breakfast and lunchtimes, but the food offering does look good. There are all manner of breakfast butties on offer, including a double bacon butty with sausage and tomato and chilli relish and the Lupo Butty of avocado, feta, pickled red chilli, pumpkin seeds and pine kernels on ciabatta.
For lunch, things go up a level. They do a heavenly-sounding Fat Butty made with 12-hour roast pulled pork with apple and fennel slaw, but we're also drawn to the Cheeky Butty with chicken thighs, aioli and little gem.
On the drinks side, there's a range of fresh juices, smoothies and shakes with an extensive hot drinks menu of flat whites, cortado, chai latte and a bulletproof coffee with espresso, butter and coconut oil.
There are a few seats inside and outside if you want to eat in, and the first few weekends have been very busy with locals checking out their new sandwich shop.
