Like many fans of Black Axe Mangal, or to use the correct title FKBAM, we were gutted when it closed last year. But the good news is that next weekend, chef Lee Tiernan will be back in his Highbury Corner restaurant for a fun two-day pop-up.
Tiernan has teamed up with Irish butter folk Kerrygold to open a weekend sandwich shop. The Kerrygold x Lee Tiernan, Kerrygold Cream Cheese Sandwich Shop will run for just two days, serving up three amazing-sounding sandwiches.
- Mushroom mapo, Scallion Kerrygold Cream Cheese, coriander and pickles on a Papos plain bagel
- Char siu Irish bacon, Kerrygold Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese, lettuce and roasted tomato on Dusty Knuckle sourdough
- Smoked cod roe and wild Irish seaweed cream cheese, lemon zest, trout caviar and cress on a BAM squid ink bread (a flavour combo taking inspo from BAM's squid ink flatbread)
It's all being done to celebrate the launch of Kerrygold's new cream cheese. "Kerrygold has always been part of my food story," says Lee. "I wanted to create a range of sandwiches that recognises the best of Irish produce, complementing Kerrygold Cream Cheese with big, bold and unexpected flavour combinations."
The great thing is that the sandwiches are going to be completely free. They'll be giving away 300 sandwiches each day (100 of each one), with one per guest. The bad thing is that there's definitely going to be an epic queue for these.
