Spotlight is St Martin's Lane Hotel's new residency space, kicking things off with Sertaç Direk

St Martin's Lane Hotel seems to have been working on something to replace Asia de Cuba properly since it closed all the way back in 2019. Now it looks like the team there is fully embracing the residency route, with Spotlight.

The new space is being put together by a creative studio called Whipped Cream, which immediately raises the question as to whether this will always be a food and drink space. Whipped Cream are apparently best known for "brand experiences" for people like Blank Street (a "crochet club" pop-up), ITV and Spotify (some of their previous collabs are pictured above). The release suggests that they will make Spotlight a "dynamic platform where food, culture and creativity converge".

Regardless of what future residencies might look like, they're certainly starting off strong. A two-week launch residency brings ex-Mangal 2 chef Sertaç Direk into the hotel, who is teaming up with chef Marcello Rodrigues, who has recently popped up at Quality Wines, Leo's, The Plimsoll and more. Marcello is best known for Portuguese food, so we'll have to see if their menu has a Turkish/Portuguese crossover take.

As for what's planned in the future for this space, it's a case of wait and see...
