They say you can never have too much of a good thing, and that's a saying that London Fields restaurant and record bar Bambi has very much taken to heart. To that end, they've bought the space behind them and will be closing for three weeks this month to transform into Bambi 2.0. The new, enhanced version is going to be double the size it is now. That means loads more tables, including a new mezzanine floor, as well as more space in that lovely front courtyard they have.
It's not all design changes, though. The food is now being run by Jamie Thorneycroft, who used to head up the kitchens at Lagom. He's getting a load of new kit to play with, including a charcoal grill and dry-ager and as a result, he's got a load of new dishes to add to the new menu. Think chalkstream trout tostadas and butterflied whole bream with a coconut saffron sauce.
Bambi's always had a bit of a reputation as a party place, with its record wall and weekend DJs. But the new space sees them amping all that up with DJs on every night and the promise of a mini rave at weekends, when the tables are cleared away post-service to make room for a dancefloor.
And if you've ever had problems getting a table there, they're going to be holding the courtyard and bar space just for walk-ins. So if you're minded to pop by and check out the new look when it reopens, that should be a lot easier.
