If you were one of the many fans of the much-missed Korean tea shop be-oom on Exmouth Market, then we've got some news that should gladden your heart. Founder Sooji Im has another venture in the offing. She's moved into central London, where she'll be opening TOKKIA, a luxury Korean matcha house.
On offer will be finely whisked Korean matcha, paired with saltbreads - a traditional Korean roll that looks like a croissant but has a denser texture. For the opening menu, Sooji is crafting a seasonal Hojicha cream-filled saltbread that's very much giving autumn with its nut and caramel notes and topping of hojicha chocolate icing. We also hear that she's working on a cinnamon brown sugar version too, with plans to extend the menu with sweet and savoury options like matcha cream, peanut butter, and corn fillings following the opening.
As with her previous cafe, this new Covent Garden opening is going to be similarly aesthetic. She's collaborated with British architect Jack Holloway over the design that's intended, Sooji explains to reflect "Korea’s spirit, its quiet beauty and rhythm". You can take a bit of that home with you too, as they'll also have a matcha and teaware collection on sale.
