He's normally seen at the top of 20 Fenchurch Street (aka the Walkie Talkie), but for one month, specifically Black History Month, chef Kerth Gumbs is coming closer to earth with a pop-up at the Royal Albert Hall.
For his Elgar pop-up (taking over the Elgar Room Brasserie), the chef has put together a menu with references to his Caribbean heritage that includes:
- Pumpkin and butternut squash velouté with coconut dumplings, chive and chilli oil.
- Curried goat on warm pita with spring onion, carrot, coconut and coriander.
- Josper-grilled venison loin with curried celeriac, sweet potato fondant, salsify crisps and Madeira jus
- Jerk chicken burger, served with BBQ pineapple, rainbow slaw, scotch bonnet mayo and skin-on fries
- Eton mess with coconut meringue, vanilla Chantilly, mixed berries and a fig and sorrel coulis
The restaurant is, however, only open to ticket holders. While he's there, there's a pretty wide range of things worth seeing including Level 42, Erykah Badu, Suzanne Vega, Wet Leg, The Force Awakens concert and even Westlife! So there are plenty of excuses to check out Elgar, too.
