Fitzrovia's dining scene looks set for a shake-up with the arrival of 3 Gorges, a new Hubei and Cantonese restaurant that's promising a high-end experience. So it's good news for them that they've managed to persuade Chef Qian who headed up the kitchen at Gouqi in St James to join them. Qian, who also worked at Mimi Mei Fair and Hakkassan, has arrived with a menu that includes everything from three-coloured xiao long bao and crispy fried oysters to bigger dishes like spicy beef shank and a Beijing Peking duck. At Qouqi he had Monk Jumps over the Wall soup. Here it'll be a Buddha Jumps over the Wall version.
Luxury items on the main menu include a "Three Ways of Eating Geoduck" (you'll have to order that one in advance). And there's a spendy set menu that's £388 which includes treats like black truffle king and crab noodles and caviar peking beijing duck.
The restaurant will take over the space that was most recently Trattoria Mondello and comes from Li Zhang, who runs the nearby Sichuan restaurant Sanxia Renjia restaurant.
