Updated 16/6/25 with opening date
It's been almost 10 years since Alan Yau took over a Soho pub and transformed it into Duck and Rice. A decade on, it seems it's time to expand as it's the latest place to find itself making its way to Battersea Power Station with a new location.
If you're unfamiliar with the Soho original, they describe themselves as a "Soho pub with a world-class Chinese kitchen". As for the Battersea version, that's being described as a "British pub and chop suey kitchen" opening in a space apparently dubbed "riverside neighbourhood". You'll find it up on the same level as the Control Room B bar.
This new pub is a lot bigger than the Soho original, more than double the size seating 185. According to architects Macaulay Sinclair, it's taking its design from "the aesthetic and style of the Cha Chaan Teng and tea houses of South China." So, it does seem like this is going to diverge a little from the built-in old-school pubbiness of the Soho version.
As for the food, it'll serve up dishes that were favourites of diners at the original pub along with new options like:
- Pork & prawn shumai
- Curry soft shell crab
- Sweet & Sour pork with rice
- Vegetable Katsu curry rice
- Lobster Laksa
And yes, the titular Cantonese roast duck with rice will be making an appearance too.
