Every year, a big festive pop-up Miracle at Henrietta, becomes one of the hottest tickets of the season. It sees a bar decked out in what can only be described as an explosion of Christmas decorations and a list of Christmas-themed drinks. It will definitely be back in some form this year, but the team aren't waiting around until November this time. Instead, they've decided to go all-out for Halloween too.
That's how The Haunting on Russell Street has come about. They're taking over the building that was, until recently, Redfarm in Covent Garden. Last year, Miracle expanded, taking over its own place on Henrietta Street, and it looks like they're going even bigger with The Haunting. Expect the entire two-floor space to be covered in all the Halloween decorations they can find (there will be a LOT of fake cobwebs), All they'll say for now is that "every nook hides something else, from crows squawking, cobwebs sticking and a fireplace that's gone cold."
The staff will, of course, all be dressed in the theme, and the drinks and snacks will follow. Planned for the menu are the Widow’s Whisper (Vodka, chocolate, melon, lychee, matcha, yuzu, cardamom, rose, absinthe) and Clown Pear-anoia (Mezcal, aperitif wine, French bitter, pear, fennel, yoghurt, lemon). This all comes from the people behind Experimental Cocktail Bars, so the drinks are usually great.
Given how fast the Christmas bar sells out, and even though this is running for the whole of October, you should get your booking in quickly. Bookings open on 8 September, so put that in the diary. And Miracle is very likely to be in this same building (if so, they'll have about a week to completely redress the space), so we'll no doubt have news of that soon.
