Five years after throwing open the doors of her Irish restaurant just off the King's Road, chef and writer Anna Haugh is now in the process of unveiling her latest enterprise in the area. The Wee Sister is Haugh's new wine bar and it really is a close sibling, being right next door to the restaurant.
The bar has taken over another wine space, Last Drop Wines. As Anna explained to us, "It's an Irish wine bar focused on Irish talent, from the food produced in Ireland to wines made across the world by Irish people." In practice that could mean a list including Sugrue, an English sparkling wine from Irish winemaker Dermot Sugrue as well as O Font, a French Grenache from Ireland’s leading Rhone importer, Simon Tyrell. And we're presuming that Anna's own label Crémant de Limoux will also be available.
As you'd expect there is also a short, but incredibly enticing bar food menu to go with the wine including oysters, pickles and the following:
- Cashel blue cheese truffles with blackberry puree
- Gubbeen cheese mousse with soda bread crackers
- Puy lentils with beef braise and roasted squash
- Chocolate black pudding slices (yes, you read that right)
"I'm so excited and proud it's finally opened," the chef says. "I was more nervous about this venture than I was about Myrtle. Myrtle has gone from strength to strength even with the curve balls that have been thrown. The bar is being really well received by the locals and often guests for the restaurant have a pre-dinner drink there which is great as it looks and feels different so adds to the overall experience for the guests."
