Charlotte Street is getting an Alsatian wine bar and restaurant called July

Updated with the opening date

Opening in the spring but confusingly named after a summer month, July is going to be an Alsatian-inspired restaurant and wine bar hitting up Charlotte Street. And while this is the first hospitality venture for the pair behind it, they've brought in a team that shows they know what they're doing.

French-Swiss food writer Solynka Dumas and Julian Oschmann are the couple bringing July to London. They've appointed Holly Hayes as chef who comes here via the very well-regarded 40 Maltby Street where she was sous chef. Joining the team on the wine front is sommelier Honey Spencer who's worked on the wine list for July (and has also just opened her own London wine bar, Sune, across in Hackney). Honey has picked a selection of low-intervention wines from small producers across Europe.

The all-day restaurant will be open for breakfast pastries and coffee in the morning moving through to lunch which includes salads and sandwiches, like roast beef, horseradish crème fraiche and watercress, with small plates and bar snacks in the evening. Here's a taste of what's coming on the menu:

  • Lamb hearts, white asparagus and hollandaise
  • Lemon Sole, clams, and leeks

And instead of a Sunday roast, the real focus here is on their Saturday lunches where they'll be serving up a whole roast Fosse Meadows chicken with homemade mayo as a sharing dish.

It all sounds like it'll be very convivial and a good new addition to Charlotte Street.
