TBC (The Butter Club) comes to Notting Hill from Amsterdam chefs famed for square croissants

If the abbreviation ‘TBC’ evokes feelings of frustration or even work stress, then we have a much better word association for you: The Butter Club. Because that’s what TBC stands for when it comes to the name of a new restaurant opening in Notting Hill.

The chefs behind TBC – Gabriël Verheij and Alexandre Scour – hail from Amsterdam and, while the friends are big news in their hometown, this is their first foray into London with their "inventive luxury comfort food".

The duo met when working at Vanderveen on Beethovenstraat, where Alexandre was a pastry chef and Colombian-born Gabriel arrived after honing his chef skills at Michelin-starred RIJKS® at the Rijksmuseum. After both of them did stints elsewhere, they started collaborating again at local pop-ups. If you’ve been taking advantage of Eurostar’s direct route to the Dutch capital in the past couple of years, you may have encountered their cuisine at various residencies.

All of these influences will come under London scrutiny when their restaurant opens on Golborne Road. You can expect:

  • BBQ langoustine and Sichuan butter sauce
  • Fried chicken with nori mayo and caviar
  • Fried oyster mushroom bao with soy glaze kimchi and pickled daikon
  • Hokkaido milk bread lobster roll
  • Fried buttermilk chicken brioche feuilleté

There has also been much fuss about the duo’s square croissants, which feature on the dessert menu: choose from fillings of dark chocolate and cacao nibs, cinnamon and pecan praline or corn and pickled blueberries.

On the drinks front, you’ll find craft beers and cocktails with a buttery twist and if you’re a fan of hip-hop, you’ll also be impressed with the tunes.
