What: Al Mare
In a nutshell: High-end Italian in Knightsbridge.
Summing it all up: Knightsbridge hotel The Carlton Tower Jumeriah is just emerging after a major revamp - and they're opening a new restaurant alongside. Expect high-end Italian dining and great views over Cadogan Gardens.
The low-down
Staff at the Knightsbridge hotel The Carlton Tower Jumeirah haven't been taking it easy over the various lockdowns. They've just gone through an 18-month-long renovation that's finally being unveiled in June. As part of that, they're also launching a brand new restaurant, Al Mare.
Run by Marco Calenzo, who's joined from Zuma (and who also worked at World's 50 Best restaurant Les Créations de Narisawa in Tokyo before that), it'll be an Italian restaurant with produce sourced both direct from Italy and locally.
The menu includes:
- Ricciola al limone, with garlic puree and Etna lemon gel and dressing.
- Ravioli ‘Del Plin’ stuffed with Guinea fowl & Giorgio Bonati 7 year aged gran-riserva parmesan cheese
- Risotto made with the world’s finest ‘Piana di Navelli’ saffron
They're also planning an "elevated" Veal Milanese, along with plenty of Italian charcuterie and cheese, cut to order from their counter and more classic Italian dishes.
On the drinks side of things, the restaurant will have a tableside aperitivo trolley (we do love a bit of trolley action) which will have rare and vintage Amaro, grappas, eau de vie and vermouths - one of which will be Al Mare's house blend. The wine list will have a Mediterranean focus, as well as some Super Tuscans and Barolo and a monthly selection of the Sommelier’s favourite bottles.
As for the look - the main dining room will be a complete redesign from before and you can expect plenty of Rosapino marble with an open kitchen at the heart of it. There's also an alfresco space overlooking Cadogan Gardens and even a "cigar butler service" if that's your thing.
