What: Kym's by Andrew Wong

In a nutshell: Andrew Wong's City restaurant

Summing it all up: For his second restaurant, Andrew Wong is planning his own take on classic Chinese dishes. The city space will seat over 120, with a separate bar and private event space but we're particularly excited about the Chinese Sunday roast that's coming.

The low-down

Fresh from winning a Michelin Star for his Victoria restaurant A Wong, the man in charge is gearing up to open his second place in Bloomberg Arcade.

Described as a "premium casual, all-day dining menu based on Andrew's creative interpretation of classic Chinese dishes.", the man himself says; "this time it’s about my community and my own journey. The name is actually something very personal to me and my family.” Turns out it's the original name of Wong's restaurant in Victoria from the time when his parents used to run it.

And from the man himself: "I've been considering the idea of somewhere we would be able to open all day for a while. When the opportunity for the Bloomberg Arcade came along, we knew it would be perfect."

As for the food - we're told to expect small plates like Yunnanese lemongrass salad, peanuts, lettuce, chilli, lime, sharing platters of Crispy duck, pancakes, plum sauce and classics such as Slow poached soy chicken, ginger relish, rice. And god, the desserts sound good too - I mean who wouldn't want to try the ‘Chinatown’ pineapple bun with custard?

Wong's also planning "a big emphasis on the ancient craft of Chinese ‘roasting’ meats – and that includes poaching" - and he'll be opening on Sundays for a Chinese Sunday roast menu.

The 120 seat restaurant will run over two floors and there'll be a standalone circular bar capable of seating 30. Up on the mezzanine level, there'll be a private area capable of seating 50. As you might imagine from any new City restaurant, they're going big on the interior design too with a 5-metre high cherry blossom tree growing through the curved staircase linking the bar and restaurant with the upper mezzanine level.
