The shiny new terrace up on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols Knightsbridge
So the terrace has had some work done?
If you haven't been up to the Fifth Floor of Harvey Nichols in a while, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised by how their popular terrace is looking this season. They're describing it as a 'refreshed look', but we'd say it's more of a Kris Jenner-style makeover. There's a gorgeous new decking flooring, very pretty lighting and some deftly placed olive trees, all of which have made it look like a very polished new version of itself.
It's a chic place to go, particularly when the weather's lovely.
Where is it?
Well, the clue is really in the name. But to get here, you now have to make your way up to the fifth floor using the lifts/escalator inside the store as the dedicated Fifth Floor lift is currently out of action. The store itself is literally on top of the Knightsbridge tube station, so it's a doddle to get to.
What about the menu? Has that also been given an update?
You can always rely on the restaurant here to have a seasonal iteration of its menu on offer, and the current summer dishes have been designed to be enjoyed out in the sunshine. Here's what we tried to give you a flavour of what's on offer:
Salmon tartare with fennel shavings and prawns and focaccia croutons (£23) - honestly, this was a very generous serving for a starter. This and a glass of Champagne would be a perfect light lunch for one.
Burrata and citrus salad with focaccia crisp and confit tomatoes (£17) - just look at the gorgeous colours on that.
Cornish crab linguine with courgette cream, rocket and parmesan salsa (£24) - a dish which also had a lovely bit of unbilled pangrattato on it, to add some crunch.
Confit duck leg, charred tenderstem broccoli, green olive salsa verde - admittedly not the most summery option, but this was one of the day's specials, and we really fancied it.
Room for dessert?
We genuinely didn't think we'd have room for the two we ordered, but it turns out that they were both delicious and we cleaned our plates.
Strawberry and vanilla millefeuille with lemon verbena - made with the strawberries that really taste of something, this was a delightful summery dessert.
Tulia's tiramisu with dark chocolate crumble, coffee syrup and whipped mascarpone (£12) - tasked with coming up with a new take on tiramisu, pastry chef Tulia has found a winning iteration with this light-as-a-feather offering.
What's on the drinks list?
The Fifth Floor Champagne bar has recently partnered with Champagne PIAFF and that's also the case out here on the terrace with their Brut, Rosé and Blanc de Blancs all on offer here. They also do a very nice line in summery spritzes that are very refreshing on a sweltering day in London.
You can't beat a glass of Champagne in the sunshine...
Left to right: a classic Hugo Spritz (£14) and a Sunset Spritz (£13).
Did someone say free Champagne?
To celebrate the reopening of the Fifth Floor Terrace, throughout June, customers who sign up to the Members rewards programme will receive a complimentary glass of Champagne PIAFF when ordering any main course.
Overall thoughts:
There aren't that many places in this part of London where you can enjoy a really good plate of pasta or a summery salad out in the sunshine along with a great view across the rooftops of Knightsbridge. And now, with its new look, the Fifth Floor Terrace is very much a fashionable spot worth rediscovering. We'll also point out that it enjoys a lovely breeze, which is worth remembering on a hot summer's day.
