Anyone who popped down to the turning on of the Christmas lights in Shepherd Market last night may have spotted a newcomer Kitty Fisher joining in the fun. This 40 seat restaurant, named after a famous 18th Century courtesan who used to live nearby, is where you'll now find chef Tomas Parry - formerly of Climpson's Arch - plying his trade.

Parry, who was picked as Chef of the Year this year by at the Young British Foodies Awards, will be developing the style he won plaudits for in Hackney, cooking on a custombuilt grill designed by Mark Parr of the London Log Co. And he's being joined in his endeavours by Chris Leach, who comes here via Pitt Cue Co.

Running the show front of house are Tom Mullion (co-founder of All Star Lanes), Tim Steel and actor Oliver Milburn. "Fire is absolutely essential in our cooking," is how Oliver explained the restaurant' cooking to Hot Dinners, "and simplicity, flavour and provenance uppermost in our approach to everything."

As for the menu, some of the dishes they're running in their current soft launch include:

  • Taleggio on Grilled Bread, Mustard, Ale & London Honey
  • Salt Cod Croquettes with Aioli
  • Buratta, Salt Baked Beetroot and Clementine
  • Ox Cheek, Potato & Sprout Tops
  • Sirloin of Cornish Beef, Smoked Potato

The wine list is focused on France and Spain and they'll also be serving Basque-style gin and tonics, Overnight Bloody Marys and their own Bad Kitty cocktail.

Kitty Fisher's is on soft launch at the moment. "From the New Year we are open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday-Sat," says Oliver. "Before then we are trialling different shifts and are open for bookings, just ring and see. 0203 302 1661."

Kitty Fisher's is at 10 Shepherd Market London W1J 7QF. Keep up with their news on Twitter @kittyfishers
