Chicken Town neighbourhood venture plans to open in Tottenham

chickentown

We love a feelgood story here at Hot Dinners and there's a veritable shedload of goodwill surrounding a new Tottenham venture. Chicken Town is a chicken shop with a difference. By day they aim to serve up healthier and better quality chicken meals to young people, matching the price of local fast food outlets. In the evening they'll turn into a neighbourhood restaurant. Better still every bit of profit from the restaurant is being put into funding Chicken Town's £2 Junior Specials, helping local young people get a better lunch and after school meal.

Not only will this be a place to get great food, it'll also help train up young people in the catering industry, offering jobs, training, mentoring and NVQ level qualifications through work placements with leading restaurants and chefs across the city who are partnering with them on the project.

They've also attracted some serious restaurant talent to help them achieve their laudable aims. Executive Chef Giorgio Ravelli who you'll remember from Upstairs at the Ten Bells and, most recently, Brooksy's Walk has worked with nutritionists and food scientists to design a menu consisting of healthier and (crucially) affordable alternatives to the fried chicken meals available at regular chicken shops. So here you'll find herb fed free range chicken which will be steamed prior to flash frying, with sides such as baked sweet potato wedges, fresh coleslaw and salads.

You should also watch out for guest menus coming on from Chicken Town’s restaurant partners - including The Clove Club, Quo Vadis, Polpo, Lardo and The River Cafe. The partners will also be mentoring the.young chefs and front-of-house staff too.

Chicken Town is now open at The Old Fire Station, Town Hall Approach Rd London N15 4RX. Opening hours are Monday to Wednesday 3.30pm to 5.30pm and 6.30pm to 11pm; Thursday/Friday 12pm to 5.30pm and 6.30pm to 11pm and Saturday 12pm to 11pm. Keep up with their news on Twitter @CHICKENT0WN
