I've been heading here for years. The koobideh is the thing, obviously, with that perfect rice. But the dish that slips under the radar: the spicy chicken wings. Honestly, some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They’ve got all the Persian hits you could want and there’s a confidence to their cooking that's backed by an incredible team.
Goldmine
102 Queensway, London W2 3RR
From the ducks hanging in the window to the red-banquet interior, you know what you’re in for before you sit down. Goldmine never misses. There’s always space for a walk-in, the service is brisk, and the roast duck off the bone is up there with the best in London. I have a standard order – egg fried rice, morning glory, aubergine in sauce, maybe some beef cheung fun if I’m in the mood. Big plates, no frills, properly Chinese.
Cocoro
45 Moscow Rd, London W2 4AH
Cocoro is the place I’ll evangelise about to anyone who’ll listen: sushi, sashimi, handrolls at the counter. When I'm at home it's from Bayswater, when I'm at work it's the Marylebone one but the fact that it's Cocoro never changes. This is the one place I’m not ashamed to order the sushi boat either — best produce, beautifully handled, and I am a regular for life.
The Victoria
10a Strathearn Pl, London W2 2NH
The Victoria is one of those pubs I can lose an afternoon in. Downstairs has that wood-worn charm, but I'll usually bag a table upstairs and outside — the dining room is all soft light and perfect for people-watching. The cooking is everything I want a pub, and they serve a great Garibaldi.

This is where I go when I want to pretend I’ve got a laid-back, deadline-free life. Morning macchiato, yogurt bowl, or eggs — simple things done right. Truth is, I end up here even when I’m on back-to-back calls. The most wholesome service too.
