If you're wandering through Covent Garden over the next couple of days and spy a gaggle of people beside what looks to be a huge Italian Renaissance-inspired fresco, then you should head on over. Because this is actually an optical illusion artwork, commissioned by the Peroni beer brand that's going to be serving free beer to Londoners for the next three days.
The Il Fresco di Peroni is part artwork, part optical illusion, part bar and took over 520 hours to paint by a team of 13 artists over 65 days. You can step into the scene, sit at the table for an aperitivo and then get a free half pint of Peroni Nastro Azzurro poured directly from an earthenware jug in the work itself.
Bringing the beauty of a Roman fresco to London over a bank holiday offers visitors a truly special drinking occasion and something unique to marvel at," is how Anja Gottschalk, Brand Director for Peroni Nastro Azzurro explains the experience. We say that free beer in the sunshine in London has to be tried for sure.
