They've long held a reputation as being one of the best places in Paris to enjoy gluten-free breads and pastries. Now Parisian bakery chain Copains has set its sight on London. To kick off their cross-Channel takeover, they're starting with two bakery openings, in Covent Garden and Islington. Both will be the brand's first bakeries outside of Paris.
In Covent Garden, they've taken over the lease of a shop on Neal Street, and in Islington you'll find them on Upper Street, where Toast used to be. In both branches, we're told there'll be the full Copains menu of freshly baked breads, cakes, and savoury foods. The key to the chain's success has been the quality of their gluten-free breads and Viennoiserie. They also switch up their menu seasonally, with recent additions in Paris including a chocolate and Morello cherry tart and a fig and charcoal pie.
Given the excitement on social media surrounding this, you can expect both branches to do pretty well in London when they open.
