If you loved Lurra and Donostia, Maset on Chiltern Street hopes to do the same for coastal French food

Maset in Marylebone has a coastal French influence, from the restauranteur behind Lurra and Donostia

It's all happening on Chiltern Street at the moment. The Hart has just opened its doors. Work is underway at reopening Chiltern Firehouse after the fire. And now Melody Adams, the restaurateur behind Spanish restaurants Lurra and Donostia, is getting ready to open her third restaurant in Marylebone.

Her previous ventures have taken their lead from the Basque region of Spain, but this time she's taking a turn towards France. Maset on Chiltern Street is particularly looking at French south coastal cuisine from the Occitania region, an area that's influenced by the cuisine of North Africa and Spain. The name itself comes from a small house that you'd typically find on a vineyard in that region.

The restaurant features dishes that have come about from Adams' time spent travelling in that area, with snacks including their own take on bouillabaisse, here converted into bouillabaisse croquettes. Dishes on the menu include a whole monkfish tail, marinated in preserved lemons, cooked on the bone and served sliced, with a lardo veil and sea beets. There's also a Nice speciality,  Pâtes au Pistou, which is spinach linguine, made each day, with a regional basil-based sauce.

There's also the Arles-originated dish, Camargue rice, a dish made with nutty whole rice from salt flats, mixed with capers, olives, seasonal herbs, fruity olive oil and verjus. And on the drinks side, wines will be mainly from independent vineyards in France, Italy and Spain. There will also be a small cocktail list that kicks off with a preserved lemon martini which we have our eye on.

Of the new restaurant, Adams says "We wanted to create a space that takes our guests on a journey through the South of France, where each dish tells a story, reimagined with a modern Maset touch". We've been big fans of Lurra and Donostia from the beginning, so this latest opening has huge promise.
