Chef Thomas Straker is making things easy on himself with his second restaurant opening, as it's just a few doors further down from his eponymous restaurant in Notting Hill. Acre is being described as a restaurant and deli that's "all about simple, quality cooking and putting seasonal ingredients on a pedestal."
While work on the space progresses they've already thrown open the doors to the casual dining restaurant. Eventually, there will be a deli on the ground floor while the all-day restaurant moves upstairs.
Dishes on the launch menu include:
- Chicken broth, brown rice, escarole, dill
- Cod, asparagus, courgette, crème fraîche
- Chilli cheese smash burger
In an interview with Esquire, Straker said the new place offered him "a chance for us to do more of the food that I tend to cook on Instagram, which is a little more accessible day to day." To that end, he's also promising an interesting breakfast menu which, going on their Insta feed, seems to include granola with fresh berries, fried eggs with hash browns and smoked salmon with pickles.
In other news, while the OG Straker's restaurant is cleared up following a kitchen fire, they've relocated for the next three weeks to nearby Notting Hill spot Brasseria. Their pop-up there is promising " all the essential ingredients: music, wine, cocktails, and a brand new menu featuring some old-time favourites".
