Canal in Westbourne Park is the new waterside restaurant from the Crispin and Bistro Freddie team

21/5/25 - updated with menu details and an opening date

As you might expect from a restaurant named Canal, this next opening from Ham Restaurants is all about its location on the canal. The team, who are behind Crispin, Bar Crispin and Bistro Freddie, are opening this ground-floor, all-day restaurant as part of the Mason & Fifth hotel in Westbourne Park.

The menu "will celebrate the best of British and European produce and closely follow the seasons" and they've brought in a very interesting chef to run this next opening. That's New Yorker Adrian Hernandez Farina, who has most recently been at Humo in Mayfair but before that was at ASKA in New York and was head chef of the Coal Rooms in Peckham too, along with counting the Chiltern Firehouse and French Laundry as part of his CV.

He's joined by Sean Cooper as General Manager, who most recently headed up the front of house at The Fat Duck and, before that, worked at The Quality Chop House and Muse by Tom Aikens.

On the menu here, you'll find:

  • Portland crab doughnuts
  • Trombetta courgette with stracciatella and pangrattato
  • Ricotta agnolotti with cavolo nero and pecorino
  • Red mullet with bouillabaisse, mussels and Mangalitza sausage
  • Cornish John dory with lemon dill butter and monksbeard

On the drinks side, cocktails will be by A Bar with Shapes for a Name, the East London bar which now has quite a side hustle creating great ready-made cocktails for restaurants, with a Brown butter old fashioned on the list. Wines have always been big for the group, and here they say the mainly European list will "showcase a dynamic balance of classic regions and progressive producers, with a clear focus on quality, typicity, and drinkability."

As for the space, there are going to be long communal tables, a central bar overlooking the Grand Union Canal and, crucially, two big south-facing terraces. So expect them to be very popular this summer.
