RH London The Gallery has arrived in London and it's looking beautiful

It's been many years in the works, but now the American "is it a gallery or a shop?" RH (also known as Restoration Hardware) has opened in London, right behind The Royal Academy in Mayfair.

They've opened one of their gallery/lifestyle shops just off Savile Row in a development that has taken over three Grade II-listed buildings, one of which was last occupied by Abercrombie & Fitch. Throughout the four main floors, you'll find rooms full of gorgeous-looking furniture and paintings, in what seems to be much closer to an art gallery than an actual shop. But much as the shop/gallery is impressive, it's the food and drink offerings we were most interested in.

First up, on the ground floor, you'll find their main restaurant, The Treasury, in a hugely impressive two-floor-high open room, dominated by absolutely massive chandeliers.

roomThe main restaurant again. You can tell a restaurant is impressing people when so many of the diners are gazing around the space

The menu at RH London is the same in both of its restaurants (we'll get to the rooftop space in a bit), and there are definitely similarities to the offering in New York. There's a caviar section where the highlights are mini lobster or king crab rolls with caviar (two for £28). There's also a "chilled seafood section" with oysters, lobsters, king crab legs, shrimp and a seafood tower which combines all of that (£110 or £165). So the prices are definitely Mayfair-led, but you can also get a whole rotisserie chicken with roast potatoes for £45 or bavette steak frites for £32.

Like the New York branch, there's a big focus on sandwiches with a lobster roll (£32) and a shaved ribeye dip (£32) on the menu. Alas, there's no club sandwich, but we live in hope.

Head upstairs to the second floor and there's another restaurant and bar space called The Perch (designed by Anouska Hempel). That serves the same food menu that you'll find downstairs.

This is a lovely space and the part that most reminded us of the rooftop set-up in the New York restaurant. Over the rest of the summer, we can see this space being one of the must-visit rooftops in London. There are also semi-private conservatories around the room that'll be much sought-after, particularly in the evening.

Next to The Perch, but not outside, is The World of RH Lounge bar. This is an absolutely lovely space and, frankly, very well-priced on the cocktail front.

roomA dirty martini and a Vesper in The Perch at RH London. Two extremely well-made cocktails and at £16 (particularly as they're quite large), these were very well-priced for Mayfair.

According to the original plans we saw, there was also a design for a basement Champagne and caviar bar, but those haven't come to fruition yet. So we could be seeing another addition to the set-up soon.

Opening with fairly little initial fanfare outside of a star-studded opening night party, RH London was already very busy on its opening day. As the word gets out, this is going to end up being summer's hottest new opening. So if you like the sound of it, we'd recommend you book a table now.
