Filipino bakery/pizzeria Bunso is the latest Kentish Town opening from Belly's Omar Shah

Filipino restaurant Bunso is the latest Kentish Town opening from Belly's Omar Shah

He's had a lot of acclaim for Belly and now Omar Shah (with his Maginhawa Group) is about to open a second restaurant in Kentish Town.

He's launching the all-day Bunso, which will be a bakery by day and turn into a pizzeria in the evening, with both parts focusing on bringing in Filipino flavours. So during the day there will be laminated pastries, savoury bakes and coffee and in the evening freshly made pizzas alongside a concise menu of crudo, kinilaw, salads and pasta. Just what's on the menu is being kept under wraps at the moment, so we'll have more details about that closer to the opening.

It's taking over the space that was once the hair and beauty academy on Hawley Road, and as you can see from the photo, they'll be giving that site a complete and stripped-back makeover.

About the opening, Omar Shah says "Bunso is probably the most personal restaurant I’ve opened because the combination doesn’t come from us sitting down and deciding to put different cuisines together - it’s the food I grew up around."
