Hertfordshire residents will be familiar with Lussmanns (it already has five restaurants in the county), but longtime Londoners will need to dust off their memories, because a Lussmanns is returning to the capital after more than 20 years’ absence.
Taking over what was Côte Brasserie on Highgate High St, directly opposite Waterlow Park, Lussmanns sixth restaurant is somewhat of an emotional homecoming to the city for owner and MD Andrei Lussmann, having launched his first site in North Kensington in 2002.
Lussmanns Highgate will be a 130-seater restaurant that is being mindfully refitted with lots of upcycled material, featuring a cafe-style frontage (sandwiches, salads and drinks available to take away) leading to a main restaurant and then 30 seats within a walled garden.
Presuming the menu is similar to other Lussmanns outlets, it will change eight times a year to focus on ethical dining, high-welfare farming, sustainable seafood (it was the first restaurant group outside London certified by the Marine Stewardship Council) and the best British produce. There’ll also be brunch on weekends and locals will also benefit from budget-minded set menus. Here’s a sample of dishes:
- South Coast crab linguine with chilli, capers and lemon
- Label Anglais free-range chicken schnitzel with chilli and caper linguine or wild rocket and aged Parmesan salad
- MSC Fishcake with spinach, capers and butter sauce
- Pineapple carpaccio with toasted coconut, lemongrass and ginger
There’ll also be a new bar offering Lussmanns own Garden Gin and beers from Hertfordshire’s Mad Squirrel brewery.
