After almost three decades of serving up some of London's best-loved dim sum dishes, Chinatown restaurant Joy King Lau is closing its doors.
Announcing the news in an Instagram post this week, the restaurant revealed that it was closing on 3 July and that "the current team will all be leaving after nearly 30 years of service".
The news was met with consternation from its many fans, most of whom had seen several generations of their family visit the restaurant enjoying their curry whelks, crispy belly pork and soft shell crab.
- "Wait, what the hell is this?! You're an icon, nooooo." BrexpatinParis
- "The current team have served 3 generations of our family. So much love for the whole team at Joy King Lau." Zintron.
- "JKL has served 4 generations of our family. It will deeply be missed." This man called wong
It's thought that the restaurant has been taken over by new management but there's no word yet on what exactly is planned. Given the outrage on social, you can expect the restaurant to be pretty busy in the run up to its last day of service.
