The low-down
Opening this week on Highbury Park is The Sauce - where you can pick from a choice of 14 sauces (sweet and savoury) to add to any of the dishes on offer.
Krishna Anil Bhagat, who's worked in the kitchens at Fatburger and Maison Bab, set the place up with two childhood friends, Pirathipen and Chris. Pirathipen is the avid home cook of the team with a popular YouTube channel and Chris ran a chain of London off licences. The Sauce isn't doing alcohol but here he's brought in Jungle Cold Brew and popular Dutch drink Chocomel.
They'll be doing four burgers:
- Grilled or fried buttermilk chicken thigh with homemade guacamole, coriander pickled red cabbage and shredded romaine
- Tempura fried soft shell crab
- Panko & coconut crusted king prawn
- House spiced portobello mushroom stacked with vegan cheese.
On top of that, you can upgrade any of those to a Waffle Burger for £1 more. And there are many, many sauces on offer - 14 savoury in total - including Gochujang Mayo, Creamy Coriander & Lime and Bang Bang.
In addition to the buns and bites (like herby falafel, wings and halloumi cubes) they'll also be making up boxes with a base of vegetable fried or whole-grain rice and quinoa and you can add to that meat, seafood or any of their bites along with a mixed green salad.
Desserts look to be given as much attention as the mains - they've got Dutch Poffertjes, vegan churro bites and vanilla cheesecake with another 14 sauces, including berry compote, chilli chocolate and white chocolate sauces. There'll also be shakes as well - including Hazelnut, milk chocolate with Nutella, Popping candy with Vanilla syrup and Lotus Biscoff crumbs with Biscoff sauce.
It's mainly takeaway - although there will be room for 17 diners to eat in.
