What: Viet Lounge
In a nutshell: Tucked away Chinatown bar
Summing it all up: This new Chinatown drinking spot has a top mixologist in charge (ex-Dorchester) and its tucked away location high above the street should make it feel like your own secret hideaway.
The low-down
The next time you're in Chinatown and are after somewhere away from the street level madness, we've got a tip for you. Head to the about-to-open Viet Lounge. Tucked high off the street on the third floor of Viet Food, the bar is run by mixologist Alex Looi (formerly Head Barman at The Dorchester Hotel, Park Chinois and Hakkasan).
Take a seat at the central counter where you can try drinks like Voodoo made with a dizzying arrray of ingredients - vodka, Cognac & pear liqueur, peach bitter, homemade clove with anise and Szechuan pepper syrup, lychee juice, raspberry, blackberry & lemongrass. Or how about Black Magic which marries vodka with coffee liqueur, pistachio syrup & homemade coconut milk?
Given its position above Viet Food, the bar snacks here are Vietnamese small plates from the restaurant, run by the former Hakkaasan Mayfair Head Chef Jeff Tan. Expect to find the following to soak up all that liquor.
- Viet Mystery Olives (no - no idea)
- Hanoi beef braised in fish sauce with a black pepper crumble
- Sweet corn crab balls grilled with basil chilli sauce
- Glazed chicken wings with lemongrass, fresh turmeric and fish sauce
- Crispy soft shell crab with five spices herbs
