Game

From estate to plate, here's where you'll find grouse on the menu at London restaurants from the start of the grouse season.

As the lockdown continues one of the (few) positives is that there are now many more opportunities to get meals from some of London's best restaurants sent right to your door - anywhere in the country. The latest to throw their hat into the ring is particularly interesting - as the Michelin-starred Lyle's gets ready to send out their own boxes.

For London's grouse lovers there are two ways to enjoy the game bird - in restaurants and at home. We gave both a try.

Wild British game - it's seasonal, it's local, no wonder London chefs are loving putting it on their menus. With all the spurious National Weeks we have flying around it's not surprising that a London pub chain has taken it upon itself to launch its own such week. This is how National Pheasant Week came about. It's the brainchild of the ETM group and takes place from the 16-22 November 2015.

Which is where this rather marvellous sounding dish comes into play. The Finger Lickin’ Pheasant Bucket costs £15 and features eight

If you were tempted by blogger Chris Pople's elegiac account of eating grouse at Racine last year, only to have your hopes at replicating that meal dashed when chef Henry Harris decided to close the restaurant down, then we have good news for you. Henry is returning to the pass for a night at Craft London to cook up a game supper worth
