Test Driving Jupiter Burger - the Dom's Subs crew take on the burger world at Netil Market

The shack at Netil Market - there are four stools here, and some more tables elsewhere in the market.

Another burger opening?

If you think London's going through a burger craze right now you should have been here for the early days of MEATliquor, Patty & Bun, Honest Burgers et al. But yes, this is another new burger spot for Londoners and we are all for it.

What makes this one special?

We were already primed to be interested in Jupiter Burgers because of the folk behind it, who are also responsible for one of London's best sandwich shops - Dom's Subs. They already know their way around a good sandwich and, as they told us when we broke the story, "if you think of a hamburger as a type of sandwich, it's not so far-fetched that [Dom's Subs] would move into the burger world." They describe their offering here as more In-N-Out coded than MEATliquor.

Where is it?

They've taken over the old Lucky Chip stall in Netil Market. If you haven't been there before, it's a teeny street food market just off London Fields which has also been home to the likes of Bao and Sonora Taqueria. It's about equidistant from both London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations.

Where should we meet friends for a drink first?

There's plenty of choice from the decent boozer that is Cat & Mutton to nearby Bambi wine bar. We're also rather fond of Off-Broadway which does a decent line in cocktails.

So what's on the menu?

It's very short and simple. Right now there are three burgers - two meat options which are a cheeseburger and a "Jupiter Burger" and one veggie option. They're also serving up twice cooked, hand cut fries which we could see being made in front of us (which is very In-N-Out inspired itself). There are plans to introduce a regularly rotating special into the mix with the likes of cream cheese and BBQ sauce being considered as toppings.

As mentioned, they cite In-n-Out as a inspiration and the burgers we tried were gorgeous, which isn't surprising when you learn that the meat comes from nearby Hill and Szrok on Broadway Market. We also very much approve of their decision to use Martin's potato rolls for the buns, which you'll probably have tried before in Shake Shack.

jupiter burger review netil market londonThe Jupiter burger (£12 with fries) is a double beef patty with shaved onions in it, lightly smashed and served up with pickles, mustard, cheese and house burger sauce. It's incredibly tasty and a minimum three napkin affair.

What's on the menu for vegetarians?

The veggie patty (£12 with fries) is made in-house and features red quinoa, carrots, chopped walnuts and chickpeas. It's topped with cheese, lettuce, pickles and tomatoes.

What is there to drink?

Right now you've got a choice between a coke and a Five points beer. They are also planning a seasonal homemade soda offering as well as beers on tap later on.

Overall thoughts:

In a time where Londoners are bowled over by choice and limitless options, it's very nice to get back to basics at this burger shack offering a tight menu of burgers done extremely well. Even on an ice-cold day in January we were delighted by our decision to pop over and try these. We reckon you'll like them too.
