Further proof that Covent Garden is the hottest place to open a restaurant right now comes with today's news that Canteen is opening an all-day restaurant and bar in the heart of Covent Garden.
Canteen Covent Garden, which will run until Christmas, will focus on British food and drink, serving up everything from Welsh rarebit to beetroot-cured salmon with pickled cucumber and horseradish cream, pressed smoked ham hock, piccalilli and toast, pie and mash and hedgerow fruit jelly. We'd go just for the bags of doughnuts with seasonal jam served up at the bar.
The restaurant will hold a series of food events, including a week's worth of Chefs in Residence’ nights when rising-stars and established chefs will take over the restaurant space for a night or for an entire week leading up to Christmas.
Canteen Covent Garden opens on 15 September 2011 in the central part of the market - so it'll be part alfresco, but covered by the market's glass roof.
Opening hours will be Monday - Thursday 12-11pm, Friday - Saturday 11am - 11pm and Sunday 11am - 10pm.
