Burger news, Goodman expands and Marco gets a pasting

A round-up of this week's London foodie news:

Let’s start off on a positive note with the Independent’s story that burgers may not be bad for you after all. According to a series of new scientific reports, it seems carbs could be worse for you than fats. So you can head for Boulud’s burger with a free conscience (as long as you go easy on the chips).

As far as PR disasters go, only Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay appear to have a worse rep than saturated fats. This week, Bloomberg’s Richard Vines offered up a kind review of Petrus, but for MPW there was no break – with chefs Jun Tanaka and Marcus Wareing telling Hot Dinners and The Telegraph respectively that Marco’s tie-up with Bernard Matthews was a bad, bad idea.

There was good news this week for fans of New York steak chain Goodman’s which this week announced plans to open a second branch in London. The new 125-cover restaurant on Jewry Street will open in late July.

Back to the Independent for the final story – for which those with weak stomachs may prefer to look away. Surely one for the OMFG tag if ever there was one, the paper reports that just months after being fined for its dirty kitchen, the branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken just off Leicester Square was in the sin bin once more – when an inspector (we kid you not) saw a cockroach eating a chip there. Well someone’s got to, right?
