Diego Jacquet is Chef Patron of two London restaurants, Zoilo and Florencio Pizzeria. A native of Buenos Aires, Diego’s restaurant background includes working at both El Bulli under Ferran Adria. He opened his first London restaurant, Zoilo in 2012 and as a resident of Marylebone has agreed to share his favourite places near where he lives and works.
Arôme
27 Duke St, London W1U 1LE
Arôme Bakery serves up the best pastries in Marylebone. Usually, I try to not eat breakfast due to my running training, but when I am treating myself - usually once a week or so - my go-to is Arome for a pain au chocolat. It’s not even just the best in Marylebone, it’s the best bakery in London, so we’re lucky to have it on our doorstep.
Monocle Cafe (reopens 5 December)
18 Chiltern St, London W1U 7QA
Generally, I only drink coffee in my restaurants, Florencio and Zoilo. However, if I’m on the go I go to Monocle Coffee on Chiltern Street. My go-to coffee is always a cortado which is a popular way of drinking coffee in Buenos Aires where I am from.
Paul Rothe & Son
35 Marylebone Ln, London W1U 2NN
This deli is a bit of an institution in London. It’s a really old-school destination and does a great sandwich and soup lunch offering. It’s been around since 1900, and when you try the food there you can see why it has stood the test of time and is still so popular.
Twist Connubio
42 Crawford St, London W1H 1JW
Apart from my own restaurants, Twist Connubio is my favourite place to go for dinner. It’s a tiny restaurant that sources incredible ingredients. When in season, go for the courgette flower with sheep’s ricotta - it’s a classic dish that they just do so well. The restaurant also has a great wine list, and as a wine enthusiast myself that is a real bonus and a must for a good restaurant.
The Churchill Bar
30 Portman Square, London W1H 7BH
As I spend most of the day indoors in the kitchen, my favourite drinks spot is The Churchill Bar next to Portman Square, where I’m known to enjoy a Negroni or two and a cigar.
