Baker Charlotte O'Kelly is a fashion journalist turned home baker who pivoted from lockdown deliveries to opening her own micro business, Astrid Bakery in Muswell Hill. It was a good move and so popular that a year later she was able to open a second site, expanding the bakery's range and making more of her amazing croissants and breads for locals. She's agreed to share her favourite places to eat and drink in the area.
Chris Kitch
7a Tetherdown, Muswell Hill, London N10 1ND
A wholesome, colourful jumble of gorgeous fresh salads and rustic cakes in a tiny unassuming café with a sunny terrace; this is exactly the kind of food I want to eat.
W Martyn
135 Muswell Hill Broadway, Muswell Hill, London N10 3RS
This place is like stepping back in time. I adore old shop fittings and equipment and this family-run tea and coffee specialist is full of them. It stocks jam, dried fruits, chocolates, tea and coffee, which is roasted in the window. The most nostalgic, Christmassy spot.
Toff's
38 Muswell Hill Broadway, Muswell Hill, London N10 3RT
Iconic, old school and delicious, the absolute best fish and chips to be found in London and a must-visit every time my family’s in town.
Beam
291-293 Muswell Hill Broadway, Muswell Hill, London N10 1BY
I could eat different versions of breakfast for every singled meal, so this Turkish-inspired brunch spot is always a reliable bet. My order is the shaksuka but with well done eggs, which drives everyone around me mad!
Little Mercies
20 Broadway Parade, London N8 9DE
It’s down the hill in Crouch End so I'm cheating a bit, but this fun neighbourhood spot is my favourite for brilliant cocktails and delicious small plates. The peach bellini is dangerously easy to drink!
